 Interpol's debut full-length for Matador, Turn on the Bright Lights, is a mixture of indie-garage-pop, subtle songs, and rock 'n' roll. From driven guitar numbers to playful, mind-bending pieces, through the bold pop songs with enough garage grit to keep them from becoming generic indie-pop, Interpol takes you on a ride, a roller coaster of the highs and lows of their songwriting. When they hit you with the rock, you know it. And when they want you to feel something more than a song you dance too, the offer up songs that play with your mind in an ever-so-subtle way. They are a band that knows how to conceptualize and carry out mid-fi songs that are more than your average lo-fi offering, but bold and risk-taking enough to stay away from the hi-fi side of things. I'll give it a B+.
