Reggae Rocks Here Comes The Sun - A Reggae Tribute to The Beatles (Madacy Entertainment) By: Alex Steininger
Ellis Island's "A Little Help From My Friends" somehow manages to take the classic Beatles song, a beautifully crafted pop masterpiece, and turn it into a melodic, danceable reggae song, all without offending or desecrating the song. The smooth reggae soul vocals and the relaxing island vibe put any doubts to ease. Then there is the Toots and the Maytals' "Hey Jude" and Chalice's "Imagine", two flawless, timeless songs that don't stand up to the conversion as well as "A Little Help From My Friends", but, being some of the finest pop ever written, they still shine and sound great. No matter what you do, you can't kill the song, and these two covers are proof of that. And after the shock wears off, you might just find yourself soaking up the sun and relaxing to these renditions. I'll give it a C.
