The Crescent
The Crescent (Hut/Virgin)

By: Cam Lindsay

The Crescent are a UK guitar band that have flown under the radar since they first released their debut single, "On The Run" last year. Their average age is 20, and it really shows. They seem to have grown up and taken an interest in music around the mid to late 90s, when guitar bands like Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene and Cast were inspiring British youth to form bands based on good times and nights out at the pub. There's no doubt that they can play their instruments properly, it's just that what they do with them is rather boring. The world doesn't need another band sounding like a mix of those previously mentioned, as well as Stereophonics, the definite worst of all Britrock bands. Unfortunately, singer Wayne Whitfield has a voice that even matches the raspy vocals of Kelly Jones, which may be appealing to some, but not to most. There really isn't even a song on here that is enough to inspire some record sales. The three singles released so far are all very uninspiring, let alone catchy. The Crescent have a problem that will not go away unless they learn to look to better bands to direct their music, because they sure haven't proved they can do it on their own. C-.
