Grain USA
Over The Counter Culture (Disposable Pop Revolution)

By: Alex Steininger

With some of the best packaging I have ever seen, Grain USA, who's album is entitled Over The Counter Culture, put a pill and shreds of cotton underneath the tray card, much like a bottle of pills. The music doesn't disappoint either. Think early 90's power-pop mixed in with an upbringing of post-punk, 80's college rock. This is indie-pop with charm, the kind of pop band you can sing along and dance too, or blast on your stereo with a big smile on your face. They're not downers, they're not clowns, but they know how to write a memorable song with something to say all while having fun. Long live the pop revolution, and bands like Grain USA who are helping to keep the torch burning. I'll give it a B+.
