Reggie and the Full Effect
Under The Tray (Vagrant Records)

By: Vinnie Apicella

Reggie and the Full Effect deliver their strongest album on their third full-length, Under The Tray. Fronted by The Get Up Kids' keyboard player James DeWees, who plays the majority of the instruments on the album, Reggie and the Full Effect deliver an album of glossy pop. Ranging from the danceable 80's piece of "Mood 4 Luv (featuring Fluxuation)". The pop-punk of "Congratulations Smack & Katy", as well as the spacey and laid back "Image Is Nothing, Lobsters Are Everything". And through the power-pop of "Your Bleedin' Heart", Reggie and company know how to craft a pop song, no matter what the sub-genre. Under The Tray is a shining example of DeWees' songwriting ability, as he plays around in his bag of tricks and delivers several different styles, somehow making them all sound oddly Reggie. I'll give this a B+.
