Great White
Thank You... Goodnight!: The Farewell Concert (Knight Records)

By: Mark A. Lawrence the IV

The first single that I ever bought was Great White's "Once Bitten Twice Shy," it was on a three track tape with "Slow Ride" and "Wasted Rock Ranger" finishing out the program duplicated on both sides. I still have that tape and listen to it on occasion when I want to feel younger. Their newest live album Thank You -- Good Night has that same effect, reminding me of all the things I loved about late 80's rock. They're all there, the power cords, the ballads, the only thing missing is a blond bombshell on the cover. For a band that never reached the commercial success of other groups of that period, this CD reminds me of how good Great White really was. "House of Broken Love" is a ballad in the same league as any Poison classics, and "Back On the Rhythm" is a strait forward power number from 1987. If you're a fan, even if only in tight spaces surrounded by coats, the CD has two previously unreleased songs, you won't hear any where else and I have to say this music faired better over time than the Milli Vinilli single I bought the same day.
