K-Rec
Disque Jockey (Nettwerk)

By: Mark. A Lawrence the IV

Somewhere between the feel good dance music and hip hop of the early 90's is where K-Rec's album Disque Jockey waits to move bodies and hearts. It made me dance around in my apartment like Soul Train. I'm sure the neighbors enjoyed that, but at least I wasn't naked this time. This album isn't just spins and sampling, it has the beautiful voice of Monica Schroder and a groovy bass line overlaying the effects on "Invisible Beauty" and some lyrical mastery on "It's the Party," that reminds me of early Naughty By Nature minus the "right around the corner from west hell, two blocks from south shit, and once in a jail cell." This is just fun music that doesn't need to be over analyzed, it's the stuff that frees the mind and makes the bootie go round.
