A18 Foreverafternothing (Victory Records) By: Jeb Branin
A18 is a relatively new Southern California group that is comprised of oldschool sXe veterans. They are also known as Amendment 18, which seems appropriate since it was the 18th amendment that outlawed alcoholic beverages in the USA (later repealed by the 21st amendment - so if this band ever changes its name to A 21, you'll know they lost the edge). With a band pedigree that includes such legendary acts as OUTSPOKEN and one of my personal favorites, INSTEAD, it isn't surprising that this disc has the power and punch to knock your teeth in. Although straight driving hardcore is at the root of everything on this CD, the more abrasive influences of the last several years are in abundance, including a massive barrage of riffs that will definitely endear itself to fans of the metal-tinged Victory Style. I was a little bit surprised and the embittered and dark attitude of the CD, including cover art depicting a suicide, this may be sXe, but it sure isn't posi-core. I understand the band is touring like madmen, I would be stunned if they didn't kill live, so catch them at a dive near you.
