The Blood Brothers Rumors Laid Waste (Luckyhorse Industries) By: Cam Lindsay
After three rambunctious albums fusing hardcore, indie rock and the ideal rock opera sound (which includes this year's contender for album of the year, Burn Piano Island, Burn), Seattle's fiery fivesome, The Blood Brothers, have gathered early, hard-to-find material for this interesting compilation. Featuring tracks from an early single, as well as splits with Stiletto and Milemarker, and two unreleased tracks, Luckyhorse Industries has managed to display the band's pre-album stages to show how far this band has come. The recordings are all quite unpolished and hoarse but also worthy of hearing. Nothing quite matches anything from their albums, but tracks like "Red Blooded American Girls" and "1, 2, 3, 4 Act Two: Now You're The Bitch--" show the aggressive tendencies the band had early on and continue to carry with them today. Any fan of The Blood Brothers is a die-hard one, meaning this record is a necessity, even though it's clearly not as captivating as any of their later material. B
