Super Sabado [1 Sided 12" LP] (625/Prank/Six Weeks)

By: Jeb Branin

This is a great record. Not a very literary assessment, I realize, but true nonetheless. Everything about this release is "great." It was put out by three labels (625, Prank and Six Weeks) in conjunction with the Super Sabado Gigante hardcore festival to raise money to cover travel expenses for bands flying in from across the globe. It also has top collector-geek value because it is a one-sided 12" (almost as rare a commodity as compassion from President Bush). Additionally it collects rare, demo, unreleased, or otherwise impossible to get tracks from bands like ARTIMUS PYLE, LACK OF INTEREST, GUYANA PUNCH LINE, CRUCIAL UNIT, BREAKFAST, KUNG FU RICK (two tracks), BURN YOUR BRIDGES, HOLIER THAN THOU?, KYLESA, MUNICIPAL WASTE, and SHANK (two tracks). Most of the songs are original, although there are some covers of bands like POISON IDEA and R.K.L. As you can readily tell from the band list, the one common denominator on this record is over-the-top hardcore. Although each band has its own flavor and approach, each one attacks its music with unbridled passion and fury. Those uninitiated in the wiles of extreme hardcore who dared play this record would likely be emotionally scarred for life. Only 1000 of these were made and most were sold at the festival, so you may want to start the hunt now.
