The High Score Sexy Losers (Lynn Point Records) By: Mark. A Lawrence the IV I'm not sure if the members of The High Score are leaning towards pop or trying to hold on to their hard edge, either way the music on Sexy Losers works great. The songs on this album are catchy with the near-pop of "Blown-out Radio" and "Laid Up" that has a rough honest edge of punk seeping from their seams. It's this punk feel that takes over on songs like "She Don't Love Me" and "Call It Vicious." Overall they have a sound like Alien Crime Syndicate if you took sand paper to them and did away with most of the production. This album has a cool flow that seem as though they threw out a produced sound of studio work for a concert set feel. "Let the Stupidness Begin" is a great track that is jumpy and raw and even the more manicured sound of "Let It Go" has guitar work that almost sounds like early Aerosmith. There are some great gems on this CD, like "Mohawks and Birkenstocks" which leans more toward hardcore, and keeps you wonder if this tog-a-war is to switch up the sound of the album or if they're just singing the music that moves them. This on the fence mix of pop and punk makes for a great CD.
