'No, After You Sir--' -- An Introduction To You Am I (Transcopic)

Never having received a proper release in the UK before, Australia's rock legends You Am I have joined forces with Graham Coxon's Transcopic label to help. To do this, the band has compiled a sampler, shall we say, so they can hopefully be appreciated the way they should have been over a decade ago when they began. Collecting songs from Sound As Ever, Hi Fi Way, Hourly Daily, #4 Record and Dress Me Slowly, 'No, After You Sir--' is essential for anyone who has never experienced the band. Displaying why they are one of the most favored bands in Australia and have a huge cult following worldwide, You Am I's music is melodic rock 'n' roll without any pretension, gimmicks or trends. Singer Tim Rogers has a voice that isn't particularly strong or instantly recognizable, but he knows what notes to hit and how to write a good melody for his range. Their music most importantly is built around consistency. Though they've been around since 1990, the band has never changed its sound or songwriting formula. Their knack for pop songs is quite unique, with songs such as "Mr. Milk", "Cathy's Clown" and "Soldiers" all containing a strong, infectious melody without resorting to anything too bubblegum. An immaculate introduction, this compilation captures the true form of You Am I and finally gives neglected music lovers a chance to get to know a band deserved of superstardom. A
