VARIOUS ARTISTS: Deep Elm Records Presents...
Unreleased 2 (Deep Elm)

By: Alex Steininger

Ten tracks of unreleased emo from the proprietor of the sound, Deep Elm Records offers up cuts from The White Octave ("A Chinese Character"), Cross My Heart ("Complications"), The Appleseed Cast ("The Spider Wall"), and Walt Mink ("Downright Presidential"), to name a few. Each cut rips through you as if it were its last stand, pouring out its emotions, and gasping for air at the same time, immediately struggling for survival, while also looking at the long term and realizing it will be OK. Whether it is The White Octave delivering this message in a heavily distorted wash of guitars and screams or The Appleseed Cast delivering this in mid-tempo heart string puller, the bands manage to give it their sweaty all, even when you're not feeling, they make you at least understand. I'll give it a B-.
