Dr. Theopolis
The Playa' E.P. (Pimpbionic Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Portland-based funk/hip-hop band Dr. Theopolis, an eight-piece, all white outfit that sets out to mock the absurdities of gangster rap, is back with a new EP, The Playa' E.P., which follows up their debut, The Voice of the Future. Less-polished, but just as humorous, The Playa' E.P. does hip-hop and funk the Dr. Theopolis way - with hilarious results. Highlights include the character "Billy" screaming out "fingerbang" and Mr. Fabulous, a man whom, during the band's live shows, dances around on stage, giving Billy the "Ten Rules of Pimptitude". Dance all night, and drink all day seems to be the Dr. Theopolis way, and The Playa' E.P. lives up to this standard. I'll give it an A-.
