Magic And Medicine (Deltasonic)

 One would figure that since The Coral happened to release last year's most sundry rock album to enormous critical acclaim and public adoration, they'd take a few months off to relish in the success. However, these youngsters managed to do the complete opposite, jumping right on that creative chuckwagon and pumping out their sophomore album within a year of their debut. The motivation and dedication alone should make everyone storm out and buy a copy of Magic And Medicine. Luckily though, this follow-up to The Coral is every bit as lovable. Immediately, Magic And Medicine feels like a different chapter in their brief history. The mindblowing Captain Beefheart freakouts are much less frequent, appearing only a couple of times throughout. In their place is a much straighter style of songwriting. Replacing the pirate's drunken shanty that was "Skeleton Key", The Coral have gone all Morricone and used the other end of the spectrum, the spaghetti western on the stand out track and first single, "Don't Think You're The First". A sensitive side takes over as well, with gentle strummers like "Liezah" and "Eskimo Lament" giving the band an even more distinguished sound. Of course, second single "Pass It On", realizes all of that in its brief two minutes. Their shot at old timer, alt.country, it's a shoe in for Single of the Year, that is, unless "Don't Think You're The First" doesn't beat it to the punch. Once again The Coral have managed to create another little universe that music lovers of all ilk can cherish.
