Beautified for Sound (Vaunted Records)

By: Mark A. Lawrence the IV

This trippy calash of sound opens with "The Great Fantastic," a tune with Bob Dylan like vocals and a back drop of bouncy energetic music that carries through the extent of this album. The lyrics seem almost a second thought with simple structure and the strength of these songs clearly put behind the music rather than the words. The further you get into this album the better the songs get, whether it's getting use of the bands style or the later tacks have the true heart and soul of the band put behind them. Whatever it is beginning with "Naughty Frightened" this album heads for a stronger feel backing the songs. "Her Majesty's Pleasure" is an odd instrumental with a moody groove and cool guitar arrangement. Over all this band has the sound of a guitar heavy 80's New Wave band, that drank a bit too much before their studio time. I'd love to hear more songs like "The Same Old Shame" with it's awkward beer stained art rock sound. Rating: C-
