Take Me To Your Leader (Big Dada)

 While commercial hip-hop is currently either a Neptunes or Shady/Aftermath production (let's face it, everything else is shameful), the underground is still delivering the goods as strong as ever. Dizzee Rascal has already given us the best album of the year with Boy In Da Corner, and King Geedorah is a close second with his theme-filled Take Me To Your Leader. The work of acclaimed emcee MF Doom, King Geedorah presents a fantasy world akin to the paranoid Tokyo in Godzilla films. Containing some of the most creative ideas in hip-hop this side of Kool Keith, TMTYL works on two levels. One is a monster movie to be taken aurally, while the other is a playground for Doom and his collaborators. Heavy on vintage B-movie samples, Doom cuts and pastes clips to make perfect advertisements/warnings/skits on "Monster Zero", the title track and the tongue-in-cheek "One Smart Nigger". "Next Level" and "Fastlane" work in different ways, using early 90s jazz-friendly backdrops a la Digable Planets in the former and a 70s porn-soul riff on the latter. As vivid and colorful as Madlib, King Geedorah is unique and overtly brilliant hip-hop that earns the status of classic after only one listen.
