The Start Death Via Satellite EP (Nitro Records) By: Mark A. Lawrence the IV
The Start have a punk energy infused with pop highlights, tweaked with just a pinch of experimentation, producing some truly awesome songs that shine on their Death Via Satellite EP. Hell, there are moments on "Big Shot" where the synthes remind me of early 80's Genesis. But no fear this isn't a 80's new-wave rehash, instead think equal parts Cyndy Lauper, the March Violets and even Shakespeare's Sisters mixed together and given that sexy raw edge of punk music. Conveyed with an honest feel, these songs are irresistible. If you don't already know about this band, check them out. They're creating some great music with heart and energy to spare. All of the 6 tracks jump out from the bass grooving seduction of "Hi Flyer," to the unbridled electricity of the title track. I think this band is staged and ready to shake things up, so start a love affair with this 6-song gem. Rating: A
