MTN CTK JNK (Hybrid Recordings)

Adrenaline-fueled, guitar-centric rock that walks a fine line between hard and melodic, the crunchy crashing style found on MTN CTK JNK has the hooks and punch to be a mean contender for modern rock staple-hood. Though, the songwriting doesn't exactly always play into their bid for radio success, sounding forced at times, while other times coming off as weak and labored over. The record has some good moments and some slicing guitars that will snag you if you're not careful, but the record becomes grating after halfway through, using its pop abilities more as a way to prop up the rock, than to reel you in. I'll give it a C-.
