Matt Suggs with thee Higher Burning Fire

 Matt Suggs' understanding of pop form comes into play on Amigo Row. Led by his piano, and fleshed out from there with the full band treatment on most songs, Amigo Row is the kind of record that doesn't shove hooks down your throat or get in your face and force you to listen. That's not Suggs' style. Instead, his somber, mellow, retreating songs just dangle in the background, Suggs doing what he does, writing moving songs that ask for the listeners full attention so he can move them, leaving it up to the listener what they're going to do with the record. A good record to play in the background while you do other things at first, you'll soon take notice and spin your head around, whipping out the headphones to experience it like your favorite records. Dark and somewhat oblique, Suggs' songs embrace indie-rock, but in an unconventional way, making it an usual indie-rock record that straddles the line between pop and indie-rock so well, fans of both will enjoy this record. I'll give it a B.
