Machines Are Us (Metropolis Records)

 Mechanoid fun! Head-knocking, boot-stomping, fist-launching, electro-industrial-pop anthems certain to remove the dance floor quarantine! What is most endearing about this album is the pure simplicity with which it lays down the beats and the vocal lines. One must now embrace the quaint notion of MACHINES ARE US with all the fervor and enthusiasm that modern rivethead intellectuals have come to respect and applaud. IOC grooves compel a bounce in every foot step, and a wave of enchantment that sweeps the across the room like a decadent den of bass and pulsating synthetic noise. MACHINES ARE US provides the complete industrial-rave experience. Beware, while relinquishing the roots of post-punk industrial idealism, you might catch yourself singing along to lyrics such as "collapse and drown" that easily bounce off the tongue in tracks such as "Shelter". Aural characteristics of IOC include a seductively deep bass tone (reminiscent of LAIBACH) and charming approaches to chorus sections (reminiscent of LACRIMOSA), threaded by a brooding and subversive social undertone (reminiscent of WOLFSHEIM).
