The Drapes
Swollen (Orange Recordings)

By: Alex Steininger

Chicago's rock 'n' roll outfit The Drapes deliver dirty, gritty, standard bar rock fare, but make it sound fun, energetic, and anything but tired. Playing with a simplistic drum beat, three chords, and meaty bass, the songs come flying at you, the drunken swagger of the vocals the key that make the songs really come alive. If you liked stripped down, plain rock 'n' roll with a swagger and a presence, than this is your cup of tea. It's bare bones, meat and potatoes rock that knows its forefathers and knows how to party and have a good time. They're not trying to re-invent the wheel, but they do want to push it and watch it spin. I'll give this a B-.
