Wolves With Pretty Lips (Suicide Squeeze)

 Chicago's We Ragazzi has been toughing it out for seven years now, in which they've released three albums. Featuring a cast of three, Colleen Burke (keyboards), Tony Rolando (guitars, vox) and Alianna Kalaba (drums), the band has refined their fiery indie rock into a dance party frenzy. Wolves With Pretty Lips mixes stylish garage punk, dance-floor boogies and angular melodic noise with the prime focus of nailing that first impression. Rolando's vocal antics recall Ian Svenonious' sexy snarl, copping an attitude that is more straight talking than pretentious. Their dramatics are praise-worthy as they never step out of the role. Even with the seemingly harmless lyrics, "Making You Queens Tonight", has a sinister motive behind it courtesy of the choppy, detached guitar riffs and creeping organ combination. "Let's Be Wolves And Leave" exudes even more suspicion, fabricating an eerie vibe that will make you think wolves are out to get you with background noises and some haunting piano playing. It's one step away from something off Danzig's Lucifuge. And with such a funereal intensity throughout, Wolves With Pretty Lips conjures up enough of a good time to dance all night. Now that's what I call magnitude.
