Blackie and the Rodeo Kings
Bark (True North Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Country-pop with a Nashville stamp of approval, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings sound well-oiled (aka well produced) and ready to take on the mainstream. However, despite it's generic feel and look, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings'Bark is not all that bad, and, even with its commercial appeal, still offers enough to keep it from falling prey to the Nashville pop sound. Bark offers up sing-along anthems, but also has the dirt and grit of true country music untainted by Nashville's money machine. Such songs as "Water or Gasoline", "Born To Be A Traveler", and "Heaven Knows Your Name" are prime examples of the album's finer moments. Country fans will rejoice at the album's refreshing delivery. I'll give it a C+.
