Them Eleven
Choose Your Beast (Strilek)

By: Jeb Branin

Although this CD only has six tracks, it runs for over half-an-hour. That's 30+ minutes of post-hardcore noise rock inspired by the AmRep sound as well as the noisier side of neo-emo. It's both arty and rocking. Neither aspect overruns the other which is a plus in my book, although one might argue that such an approach allows neither aspect to truly shine either.

As I understand it, Them Eleven hails from the Czech Republic, which I suspect is another thing that helps enhance the quality here since it affords them a degree of distinction. At no time does this get bogged down trying to adhere to genre limitations of any kind. The band has a cohesive musical scheme and they don't appear to feel obligated to tailor that scheme to "fit in" to any preconceived notions of emo.
