Manda and The Marbles
Angels with Dirty Faces (Addison Records)

By: Alex Steininger

From the punk-rock crunch of "Ode To Rock", a bouncy, pop-laden rocker. To the amped up, charged power-pop delivery of "Lipstick", and through the melodic, sing-along anthem "Simple Things", Manda and the Marbles know how to fuse punk rock, melodic delight, and fun into energetic balls of guitar-lead rock 'n' roll. Enter "Seventeen", the album's most glorious moment, a song featuring strings, acoustic guitars, and centered around Manda's beautiful voice. Dropping the rock and going straight for the core of pop, here is a sugary, sweet, relaxing song that showcases the band's musical ability in a different light. Sure, throughout the ten songs preceding this number the band could rock out and deliver a lot of energetic rock, but now you see how they can change gears, soften, and still sound equally captivating. Angles with Dirty Faces is a rock record with a tender, as well as sassy side. I'll give it a B+.
