Early Day Miners
The Sonograph EP (Acuarela Discos)

By: Alex Steininger

Early Day Miners create the soundtrack to a late night, walking home in the rain, drunk, stumbling, after heartache. It is the sound of one part of your life collapsing and another part beginning, offering up new hopes. On their The Sonograph EP, they create majestic beauty in the simplest of forms. From the rain-drop like guitars on "Bijou", through the reserved electric guitars and hushed vocals of "Bedroom, Houston", or the sparse, less-is-more aesthetic of the slow-moving "Mosaic II", they set the mood, strengthening you during the dark times and sobering you during others. It is a somber-filled record of beauty, using air and space as additional instruments, which bring their songs to life. I'll give it a B.
