Last Burning Embers
Lessons In Redemption (Pink Frost/Big Takeover Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Including drummer Jack Rabid, editor and publisher of the widely praised The Big Takeover music magazine, and covering a Wipers' song, "Nothing Left To Lose". New York's post-punk force Last Burning Embers deliver a crushing blow with Lessons In Redemption, a noisy, guitar-laden record that is fueled by the love of bands like Husker Du, Replacements, Mission of Burma, and Afghan Whigs, to name a few. Recalling the glory days of post-punk and college radio (when bands like The Replacements and R.E.M. were just coming up), here is a true slab of melodic-undertones laying beneath layers of noise, fierce rhythms, and plenty of power. Crank it up, play it loud and proud and rock out, 'cause Last Burning Embers are taking rock back for us all. No trends. No bullshit. Just sloppy, bang away rock with more than enough merit and plenty of musicianship, too. I'll give it a B.
