November's Doom
The Pale Haunt Departure (The End Records)

By: Jeb Branin

NOVEMBERS DOOM may have found the perfect amalgamation of death metal and goth rock on The Pale Haunt Departure. The album has all the brutish and violent crunch of the best death but encases the entire sound in richly layered goth. The entire effect is something akin to getting smashed in the skull with a crowbar, but one that is wrapped in velvet. In spite of the fact I am not a fan of goth, I've listened to this album repeatadly because for me the metal is so good it takes center stage. The interesting thing is, I suspect a goth fan who doesn't like metal would have the same experience in reverse. Don't make the mistake of dismissing this as another mediocre dark metal effort, it is much more.
