The Walkmen
Bows and Arrows (Record Collection)

By: Alex Steininger

Smart, danceable, high-octane indie-rock with a strong leaning towards garage rock, The Walkmen rip through it, with plenty of melody and intellect to back them up, on their latest, Bows and Arrows. Turning indie-rock and indie-pop upside down, playing with polish and strong production, but never losing sight of the song or their ultimate goal to write lively material, The Walkmen come straight out of the gate without hesitation, coming at you full blast and giving it their all. Even when they tone it down a bit and deliver light, slow piano-laced material, the song still has the bite, and their knack for melody, keeping you going as you eat it up. This is the gap between commercial rock and indie rock and The Walkmen pull it off without losing points from either side. Melodic, energetic, and unforgettable, The Walkmen are one of indie-rock's brightest stars. I'll give it an A-.
