Bad Brains
Omega Sessions (Victory Records)

By: Jeff Lockwood

I just listened to the new Bad Brains CD about five times in a row and it has only taken about 75 minutes of my life to have the tracks burned in to my head. This is roughly a sixteen minute testament to what Brad Brains was all about. These are some early "jams" from this ultra-influential band. Songs like i against i, i luv i jah and attitude are nothing but pure feeling and passion about music and life...even if it is too short. The mere fact that this CD is released on Victory Records, a mainly hardcore label, is testament to how influential this band really is. The liner notes give a brief list of who has been influenced by Bad Brains. People from Kurt Cobain to Jeff Buckley have been noted, but it is impossible to count the number of bands and people (famous and not) that have gained from the sound, fury and style of this Washington DC quartet. Although it is rather brief, Omega Sessions gives the listener a slice of the dub, punk and soul that Bad Brains is famous for. I only wish that the disc was at least twenty minutes longer.

Cool case and photos by Glen E. Friedman.
