Mark Lanegan
Scraps At Midnight (Sub Pop Records)

By: Geoff Melton

Although primarilly known as lead vocalist for the Screaming Trees, one of the best and somewhat overlooked bands out of the Seattle area, Mark Lanegan's always shined brightest in his stark, deeply emotional solo albums. On his third release, Scraps At Midnight, you'll find some of the most captivating work of his career. By stripping down the ragged, country-tinged acoustic instrumentation (occasionally highlighted by subtle touches like the sax-work on "Wheels") Lanegan's soulful, whiskey-soaked vocals push to the forefront of each tune, capturing their haunting beauty. A stirring and stunning release that digs deeper and deeper into your brain with repeated listens.
