Hood
Cold House (Aesthetics)

By: Cam Lindsay

It's hard to believe it but Leeds' Hood has been making music for over a decade. With each new record, their sound progresses, and on this, their fifth full length, the band has taken an even further step to push their music's boundaries. Cold House is a moody and atmospheric melange of songs that explores the band's interest more than ever before. A song like "TRACK 2" begins with a Boards of Canada-style combination of distorted beats and psychedelic synth. However, even though a lot of the songs here follow the same blueprint, adding some programmed beats, samples and keyboards, Hood doesn't seem any different. The songs are still quiet, cinematic pieces of work tackling that lonesome, introverted sound the band has worked on in the past. Never afraid of experimenting to the fullest, Hood is a band that has gone on strong and artistically succeeded with every record they put out, and it seems like they keep getting better each time.
