Jordan Fields Moments In Dub (Mo' Wax/Beggars Banquet) By: Cam Lindsay
Maybe I am a little naïve, but this wasn't what I was expecting. Moments In Dub is not a dub record. Jordan Fields, well known DJ and label boss for Headphoniq Records, has thrown everyone a curve ball, mixing up a heavy dosage of deep-house, hip hop, acid-fried funk with a little bit of his own special ingredients for his latest album on Mo' Wax. A continuous mix throughout, Moments In Dub presents a wonderfully visceral club atmosphere based on his influences which become very obvious, not just through the sounds on the record, but through the song titles. "London '88", "Soho Loungin" and "Chicago '84" all show their origins, just like "Wheels of Steel" demonstrates his love for Grandmaster Flash's unique hip hop style. Fields' open ability to give nods to his musical tastes definitely commands your respect, and with the music as good as it is, your head will keep nodding and your feet will keep shuffling all the way through. B+
