Rammer
Rammer (Shifty Records)

By: Jeb Branin

The debut CD by RAMMER took my totally by surprise. Sure I noticed the BOULDER spoof art on the disc and sure I'm into the neo-thrash resurgence? but when this CD started spinning and the raw old-school thrash metal began vomiting out of the speakers, I was totally stunned. I just sat there with my jaw sitting on the floor. They just don't make music like this anymore! One of the greatest bands ever was ARTILLERY and RAMMER could be a reincarnation. If that comparison doesn't work for you try ASSASSIN on for size. Fits good, eh? No? Well how about imagining a mix of NWOBHM, early EXODUS, a touch of MAIDEN and lots of early DEATHROW and early SABBAT. The only thing I've heard even close to this that is contemporary is HIGH ON FIRE. If the new thrash metal resurgence is going to continue to produce bands like this, I'm one happy man.
