Anxiety Always (Ersatz Audio)

By: Cam Lindsay

Now that electroclash has pretty much fizzled out in a blaze of media hype, it should be more interesting to see where the acts involved head with their music. Adult., one of the better acts in the scene, provided music lovers with a fantastic first album, Resuscitation, even though technically it was a compilation of singles and mixes. Formed and featuring married couple Nicola Kuperus (who recently sang on Death In Vegas' excellent "Hands Around My Throat" single) and Adam Lee Miller, Adult. stimulate the senses by cooking up thick slices of synth-heavy electro, dance floor designed, robot-fuelled electro. Considering they hail from Detroit, it's expected to sound good, however, Anxiety Always, their first album proper, somewhat lacks the character of its predecessor. There's nothing immediately grabbing as "Hand To Phone" was, though tracks "Blank Eyed, Nose Bleed" and "People, You Can Confuse" have enough off-kilter fun to them to encourage a dancing free for all. Maybe it's just a case of overdosing on a good thing, but Anxiety Always just doesn't have the zest that Resuscitation did. B-
