The Flaming Sideburns Sky Pilots (Jet Set Records) By: Alex Steininger
Finish rock 'n' rollers let it all hang out on Sky Pilots, their forth record overall, and second for U.S.-based indie Jetset Records. With a swagger and a sway, the band recalls 70s, CBGB-era punk rock while incorporating plenty of contemporary garage rock, making them fit in perfectly with rock's current climate (at least in the underground). What makes them stand out amongst that over populated genre, however, is everything. The vocals are clear and solid, possessing enough rough edges to be rock 'n' roll, but enough clarity to make you able to understand what they're saying, and thus follow them. The band, answers the call, serving up rock 'n' roll that is gritty and loud, but echoing enough melody and incorporating enough juice to keep you singing and dancing along as they whip your ass into shape. I'll give this a B+.
