Jesse Harris & The Ferdinandos The Secret Sun (Blue Thumb/Universal) By: Alex Steininger
Stepping out from behind the shadows once again, Jesse Harris, who penned several top ten hits for multi-platinum star Norah Jones, releases the sophomore album with his band, The Ferdinandos entitled The Secret Sun. His first album in four years, The Secret Sun follows up 1999's indie released, self-titled debut - with a bang. The Secret Sun is a wise-beyond-its-time record collection of should be, could be hits. Rustic and sparse, Harris doesn't bog the songs down. He keeps them simple and easy, calling upon folk, country, and rock 'n' roll influences. Including Norah Jones on the track "What Makes You", Harris delivers one of the strongest albums released this year, a hi-fidelity folk-rock record that has all the charms and hooks of the hits he penned for Jones, but with more earthy tones and textures. I'll give it an A.
