Rise Against
Siren Song of the Counter Culture (Geffen)

By: Mike SOS

Rise Against's major label debut finds the band as seething and intellectual as ever, as the quartet's hardcore punk backbone, veritable as ever, is exemplified on tracks like "State of the Union" and "To Them the Streets Belong". The spirited riffages heard on such cuts as "Tip the Scales" and "Rumors of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated" combine the Bad Religion anthem feel with the punchy delivery of Thrice, making Siren Song of the Counter Culture a smart, hard hitting punk rock album devoid of posturing and long on music with both substance and soul.
