The Scofflaws
LIVE! Volume 1 (Moon Ska Records)

By: Alex Steininger

The Scofflaws are one of the hottest bands on the ska scene today, and proof is tightly packed into this live recording of thirteen tracks recorded from three live performances on the same day (AMAZING!!!!)

The CD starts off with "Ska-La Parisian." A traditional ska instrumental loaded with powerful horns and quick guitar riffs sure to get you movin' across the room. "Back Door Open" picks the pace up a bit and adds vocals this time. The vocals are strong and voice the words very powerfully. Every word that the lead vocalist spits out has it's own meaning, while the rest of the band backs it up with strong, danceable beats sure to fill any craving your having. "Paul Getty" adds comedy in the vocals while it tells the story of a rudie who eats spaghetti O's and doesn't have a job. Dance to it, or laugh to it. After all, music is about enjoyment and happiness. No live CD by The Scofflaws would be complete without "Nude Beach." Now this is a classic track to get up and dance too. Move those feet like there's no tomorrow. "Ska La-Carte" throws some more danceable beats your way. And come on...don't forget about "William Shatner." As "Spider on my Bed" and "Boots" closes out the CD, you'll find that your running to hit the repeat button on your CD player. But really, can a live disc capture any band at it's fullest? Probably not, but from the sounds of this CD you get a great taste of them live, and it will feed your desperation to see them live even more (I know it did mine.) A band this good live can't be captured on CD (although it comes close), but this disc will treat you to some great ska.

If The Scofflaws aren't coming to your town any time soon, order this CD and play it over and over again. You'll get a great feel of them live, and when they do come to your town you'll be ready! I give this CD an A-.
