Rob Wasserman
Space Island (Atlantic Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Dance-infused, funk-injected, post-industrial, off-kilter rock is what Rob Wasserman seems to be all about on his forth solo album, Space Island. Wasserman is best known as the bassist for such acts as Lou Reed, Van Morrison, and Elvis Costello, as well as his long-time partnership with Grateful dead guitarist Bob Weir. Here, though, once again, he steps out on his own and delivers as album about as versatile as the different acts he's played bass for. Quite different, quite intriguing, that's all I can say about this album. I'll give it a C+.
