Kev Russell's Junker
Buttermilk & Rifles (Sugar Hill Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Roots-y singer-songwriter infused with folk, country, bluegrass, and rock 'n' roll for good measure. Kev Russell's Junker's Buttermilk & Rifles is an album capable of some of the sweetest, most pure ballads you'll ever hear. Sweat and tears pouring out of every note, while the more rockin' stuff conjures up tales of living life weary and tired, trying to beat the daily grind, and the subject of love, among other things. Here is something special, a record of worn, tattered, and battered songs ready to tell a story and provide you with some insight of the roads they've traveled, and why. I'll give it an A.
