Opeth
Still Day Beneath the Sun/Patterns in the Ivy II 7" single [grey wax] (Robotic Empire)

By: Jeb Branin

When I found out Robotic Empire was going to release these two impossible to find OPETH tracks (previously only available on the "Blackwater Park" limited double disk set), I just had to smile. Leave it to the mighty Empire to extend their reach further than ever to include a legendary dark metal band on their roster. Anyone who tries to categorize this label is going to end up playing the part of the fool. So it is therefore appropriate that this brace of tunes from OPETH demonstrates that the band continues to stray far afield of the well worn metal paths. Both tracks are acoustic guitar and cleanly sung vocals presented in a style that I can only describe as dark folk. The music is melancholy, to be sure, but also hauntingly beautiful in its simplicity. There were only 1,250 copies of this 7" made and they completely SOLD OUT IN ONE DAY. Amazing. Let the eBay hunt begin.
