Doc Watson
Trouble In Mind - The Doc Watson Country Blues Collection 1964-1998 (Sugar Hill Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Doc Watson has recorded and released a few blues-specific albums that highlights the foundation to his sound. However, Trouble In Mind is the first career retrospective to cover the overlooked style Watson has been known to dabble in. Showcasing his guitar playing as well as his ability to sing the blues with soul and passion, Trouble In Mind paints a portrait of a versatile singer-songwriter, a man able to weave and wander, putting his own stamp on any sound he touches, while playing to the traditionalists. Here is a warm, worn disc filled with seventeen supple acoustic blues numbers that never once fall off course. I'll give it an A-.
