Julie Doiron
Broken Girl (Jagjaguwar)

By: Cam Lindsay

Finally receiving a proper release on CD, Julie Doiron's Broken Girl project is now available for the public to experience in full. Containing the Broken Girl album (which was only ever released on vinyl limited to 1000 copies) and the Dog Love Part II and Nora 7"s (both hard to find and deleted), this reissue is some of Doiron's best work outside of the legendary Eric's Trip. Known for her achingly picturesque accounts, Broken Girl captures Doiron at a time where Eric's Trip was beginning to waste away. Her subtle elegance and simple approach to recording music, make this collection all the more valuable. Mainly consisting of her lonesome and a guitar, Doiron's imaginative and undemanding vision brings an innocent quality to the music. A true Canadian treasure, Julie Doiron is an artist unrivaled by anyone else and just about the most special thing on the planet. A+
