Hum & The Quick
Like . . .This (Emphasis Mine)

By: Mark A. Lawrence the IV

The greatest thing about writing about music is that your opinion can change in the space of a single note. I thought by the way the first 15 seconds of this CD went, I was going to hate this album but it turned out to be an amazing collection of such diverse musical expression it's like one of those amazing movies that you watch and watch finding something new every time. From musical styles that move from high energy, jumpy overload of "Albuquerque" to the piano and low key accompaniment of "Julia," this album at times sounds like Paul Simon, then Peter Gabriel to Jimmy Buffet, mixed all together to create what can only be the true sound of Hum & The Quick. Even in the humorous "Judy The Chimp" you can still respect the musical skills of the band. This is followed by the funky "Brace Yourself" which runs from a bass grove driven funk song to a trippy psychedelic rock tune without skipping a beat or over extending itself. "It Was Our Custom at the Time" is a little annoying, being one of those tracks of collected random white noise, but they make up for it with the soulful blues of "No Regular Day, No." This is a great album, that plays like a compilation of artists, never getting boring. I'm glad that this CD won me over, and I'm sure it will do the same for you. Rating: A-
