Ten Benson
Benson Burner (Jet Set Records)

By: Alex Steininger

U.K. hard rock outfit Ten Benson's forth record, and U.S. debut, Benson Burner, is an oddity in itself. Sounding like any other hard rock band (Black Sabbath, AC/DC, or Kiss), the band takes a Tenacious D approach to it, having fun with it. And though they don't have Jack Black in their band, and the humor isn't as in-your-face or blatant, the party-rock band does cut a joke or two, and laugh their ass off throughout this record. Sleazy, gritty rock that covers everything from sex to rock, here is a band for hard rockers that don't want to be overwhelmed with humor while they rock out, but still want to get down and party. Throw in some danceable grooves here and there, lots of loud guitars, and heavily distorted vocals that make you laugh one minute and feel unsettling the next, and Ten Benson help lead the way for the new school of hard rock pranksters. I'll give it a B.
