Nightingale
Alive Again: The Breathing Shadow Part IV (The End Records)

By: Jeb Branin

NIGHTINGALE is one of many projects from metal's premiere workaholic, Dan Swano. Although nowhere near my favorite amongst Dan's projects, the "Alive Again: The Breathing Shadow Part IV" album will greatly appeal to fans of ultra-clean hard rock quasi-metal. Almost progressive, almost poppy, EXTREMELY melodic, this album is one to play after you've taken off the leather jacket, unsnapped the spiked wristband are unwinding after a long, hard day of banging your head and flashing devil horns. I'm only half kidding. This album is definitely too steeped in a pure metal tradition to appeal to the masses, only hardcore metal fans will actually connect with it, in spite of the fact you would be hard pressed to describe this as HEAVY metal. Fans of intelligent hard rock in the vein of FIFTH ANGEL, latter-day RIOT, or even CRIMSON GLORY will love this.
