The Ladybug Transistor
The Ladybug Transistor (Merge Records)

By: Alex Steininger

The Ladybug Transistor's, their self-titled full-length, finds one of indie-pop's most beloved back with another fine slab of memorable, delicate, full-on pop. The record is vibrant and juicy, filled with the type of sugary, sweet, easy-to-swallow morsels that fans love about pop music. All played with a relaxed, sleepy vibe, helping the songs to settle and just float there for the listener, the perfect pillow-y melodies for one to fall back into and just lay and daydream. Slumbering at times, and more rock than dreamy during other portions of the record, it never loses its sweetness and glorious pop touch, nor does it ever become too consuming to put you off. It is filled with completely realized, gently flowing pop songs that know how great they are, but doesn't brag about it. But, they should. I'll give it an A-.
