The Letter A
Aurora Metropolis (Olympian Shadow Farm Records)

By: Alex Steininger

The Letter A's Aurora Metropolis, the debut release from the band and their upstart Olympian Shadow Farm Records, blends a variety of sounds into its rock collage. From the 80s college rock of "90 Minute Manifesto", the early morning pop of "Audible Satellites", buried melody of "Meet the New School", a mid-tempo rock song, through the experimental psychedelia of "The Harvester", the band proves to be a knowledgeable source of rock history. Their only challenge now is to effortlessly weave and incorporate these varied textures and sound scapes into a cohesive sound. At times it works and the band flourishes with diamond in the rough pop gems, while other times they forget their pop science and trail too far off into the rock 'n' roll fun and lose the listener. However, when they rebound and come back, budding talents start to glow. I'll give it a B-.
